Happy Saturday tea drinkers!
Today is the first weekend post of December which means both our boys get to join in on the fun and we get to enjoy the tea in our PJs. Can’t get any better than that. Here we go!
Tea: Banana Nut Bread
Description: Like all amazing recipes, this one took years to perfect – and it was totally worth the wait. This tea miraculously captures the flavour of freshly-baked banana bread. The taste of real banana slices blends perfectly with almonds and the sweetness of dates and currants. It’s fragrant, with all the warmth of a loaf hot from the oven. As deliciously comforting as mama’s special recipe, but without the calories.
Ingredients: Dates, currants, almonds, banana, artificial flavouring.
Time: 8:30am PT, 11:30am ET
Brooke: Good morning! Just waking up here on the West coast.
Stacey: Eric and I were saying this morning that you should been up at 5am pacific time, like us!
Brooke: Hmm that might be a bit too early. My tea has very little in the tin again. What gives, DAVIDsTEA?
Stacey: Yeah, we used the whole tin to make a pot but it still looks very clear, doesn’t it?
Brooke: Yeah! Hardly any colour to it at all
Stacey: But it has the smell, doesn’t it? I thought I was taking something out of the oven when I poured it into mine and Eric’s cups.
Brooke: Oh, Eric’s there- Hi Eric!
Stacey: Eric did some squats as part of his workout on Wednesday and he is still feeling the DOMS.
Brooke: How many squats did he do?
Eric: 60, with 195 on my back.
Brooke: Well. I could probably two squats with no weight on my back!
Stacey: Me too. We were doing squats in yoga yesterday and it was killing me!
Brooke: Wow you guys are so active.
Stacey: We’ve got a lot a free time! We don’t have Girl Guides, Improv, or School.
Brooke: Good point. I’ll take it.
Stacey: I taste sweetness… is there stevia in here?
Eric: It tastes like yellow freezies to me. Hmm let me check- ah, as suspected. There’s artificial flavouring.
Stacey: Hey, I like this better than penicillin!
Eric: If I visualize a banana nut bread in my mouth, I can feel the texture, that’s all that’s missing.
Brooke: I like it. But it’s not one that I would go out and get. Here André, why want to try it?
André: Ooh! Water! Wait, this is tea? It’s kind of sweet but doesn’t take like much. I can’t taste much flavour at all…
Brooke: I steeped it forever! Gah!
Stacey: My mom says it tastes better as it cools, but mostly it tasted pretty watered down.
Brooke: Yeah, I want my tea to DO something for me. Invigorate me, excite me, soothe me, calm me…something! But this tea doesn’t.
Eric: It’s just like flavoured water.
Stacey: Yeah, like crystal light but without the sugar.
Stacey: It’s just really… flavoured water. The smell is better than the taste, as is often the case with teas. It got me excited, but I was hoping for a bigger flavour. I’m a bit disappointed with this tea, actually.
Brooke: Yeah the big chunks of fruit and nut really excited me. I thought I was in for a treat, but it looks like we would need twice the amount of tea to even get the flavours we were hoping to taste. Again, another one worth considering for iced tea.
Stacey: I don’t want it as an iced tea, either. It’s not sweet enough!
Brooke: But then you add sweetness!
Stacey: But it would still be pretty watered down.
Brooke: That’s why you’d double steep it!!
Stacey: Okaaaay. Fine.
Here is what some folks on Twitter had to say:
Hm. Not sure what to make to today’s
#24daysoftea. I’m not really getting much of any flavor. Maybe I need a longer steep. (Hah- same idea!)
#24daysoftea is a banana nut bread flavoured infusion-a nice subtle flavour but tea pieces are so small, they get stuck in strainer.
Well it looks like we all would have preferred real banana nut bread today. Did you think the same thing or were you okay having it water form?
Until next tea,
Stacey and Brooke
